Kawaki would never admit it but his supposedly little sister was a sore spot for him. Too young, too naive, she hadn't done anything wrong and did not deserve the pain he still saw in her eyes every so often. "Grief is not linear" Hanabi Hyuuga had said to him once. He hadn’t met Lord Seventh’s extended family before and hadn’t been pleased when he realized that meeting them after was unavoidable. Boruto knew a lot of people and had a lot of friends. It had been really tiring to disappoint them one by one. At first, they had taken pity on him but Kawaki loathed pity and everything that came with it. He hadn’t wanted an army of people coming and going from their newly assigned house bringing food and flowers and empty words but that had been exactly what he had gotten. Eventually, the all-encompassing pity mutated into kindness that changed into mild indifference and an occasional act of courtesy after three years of making it clear that he did not appreciate being treated like a wounded animal. He knew he didn’t deserve it. He was not a good person.Series
