Summary
Rook has always admired Professor Emmrich Volkarin’s polished demeanor, his quiet intensity, and the maddening air of perfection he carries. Professionally, it had impressed her. Personally, it drove her nuts. As their relationship developed it left her wondering, was he as attracted to her as he claimed, or was she just a distraction from his ever looming mortality.
With friends like Lucanis, Neve, and Bellara, she didn't need to wonder for long.

Summary
Emmrich couldn’t concentrate.
For the first time in his long life, he found his mind consumed with something more than the Necropolis, something more than his fear of death.
Now, when he closed his eyes and let his mind wander it went to only one place.
Rook.
Namely, the night that Rook had decided that she was going to take it upon herself to see him unraveled. When she had spoken with their friends and lamented her insecurity and came to him as the strongest version of herself.
When she had piece by piece taken him back to the bare bones of man, not Watcher, not potential lich, just man.

Summary
Manfred had been missing for the better part of the afternoon, and Emmrich was worried.
He had already checked the usual haunts, with Assan, at the top of the tower, with Bellara, and yet there had been no sign of his companion anywhere.
The panic was settling in now. Concerns that Manfred hadn’t been paying attention and had slipped off the edge of the platform that held the Lighthouse. Worry that the wisp that brought him to life had decided to move on and had left a pile of bones for him to find somewhere in the castle.
Emmrich needed help, and he needed it from someone who would understand just how precious Manfred was to him. With a rush to his step, he turned to find Rook.
He really should have knocked before he barged in, his manners leaving him in his panic as he pushed open the door and marched inside.
“My love,” Emmrich called out to her as he walked in, “have you seen Manfred?”
