Ellyra was a shadow, he reminded himself. She was like all of the others of her kind: nothing but a hollow imitation of her ancestors, a silhouette cast upon a cave wall, insensible of the imprisoned light that made her shaded existence possible.
And still her eyes glinted as she looked at him and he felt it like an arrow.
