Summary
When Meg Halsey meets Herbert West her life is really not going her way. Back from New York after her mom died, studying under the eyes of her dad and Dr. Hill, who has been weirder and weirder, she was not ready for the effect the man was going to have on her: Strange and mysterious, he becomes a new obsession. She's sure he's doing something wrong, he has to be, and she's the one who's gonna find out what it is.
A.K.A I made a tumblr post about how Crampton/Combs are romantically involved in all of their collabs, got replies and decided to write down a suggestion of "what if Meg was the protagonist, not Dan?" by user resonanteye. It was way more fun than I, a Danbert shipper, anticipated and I just ran with it.
Sept 2025 edit: Fixed a few typos and weird dialogue, but nothing major that alters the fanfic, and definitely didn't catch everything even then :(

Summary
Meg didn't think it would be too difficult to live with Herbert West, but she really should have known better. He still isn't letting her in, but she needs to go through difficult choices while also accepting the fact things won't change. Her feelings won't go away.
West, as reticent and obsessed as ever, deals with his own feelings for Meg and how they have been affecting their work. Both go through a period of silence, of pondering and of dreaming, outside of their control.Basically this is a bridge, if I do write the planned third and final fic, but it's a self contained world---with an ending, in case I decide not to continue. Like what Hollywood does when they don't know if they're gonna renovate a show when they're feeling nice.

Meg Halsey is sixteen years old when Herbert West is transferred to Miskatonic High School. He is quiet, snarky and weird, so of course Dan HAS to understand there must be something wrong with him. Dan, on the other hand, likes West; and West seemingly likes no one.

AKA, I was writing a sequel to my TNATB fanfic and went momentarily bored, wanted to do something weird, and wrote a HS AU (something I hadn't done since I was in HS myself, basically ten years ago). I'm throwing this in my Welsey series, but it's not strictly that. It's also short :)Series
