Summary
James leans his hip against the table, his arms crossed. She can feel his gaze on her, his gold-framed glasses glinting in the candlelight, and she tears her eyes from Regulus, who looks at James with the same admiration that had previously coloured her own face.
The very sight of her fellow Gryffindor has her choke down the need to cry and scream. She’s envious, yes, she’s accepted as much, but she is also angry at his blatant ignorance of Regulus. How could he sit there, in the light of his love, and not turn to welcome it?
As heartbroken as she would be, Lily thinks she’d be happy if James were to turn and give the same look he’s giving her now to Regulus, just to see his face light up in the way that only James can manage.---
Or; Lily likes Regulus, Regulus likes James, James likes Lily. It's less of a problem than expected.

Summary
Lily doesn’t need to see his face to see his thoughts going a mile a minute, colliding and suffocating and crawling over each other to make sense until he’ll eventually come to the wrong conclusion.
She walks around the table, pulling a chair out with a scrape along the tile.
“Sit down, Regulus,” she sighs, and he turns slightly, but doesn’t look directly at her.
“Lily-”
She raises her voice, firm and authoritative.
“Sit.” His head snaps to her, blue locking onto green. “Down.”
They look at each other for a long moment where Lily thinks he might just leave anyway, might put on his robe and go back out into the night. But slowly, he turns, takes the few steps to the chair, and sits down.---
