“Whatever you do, don’t underestimate Ambessa.”
Bag slowly covering her eyes, Caitlyn can still see the humorless mirth coming from Vi.
Caitlyn’s always thought Vi was most beautiful when she laughs, her eyes aglow and light in a way the universe constantly tells her isn’t allowed. Her last memory of Vi’s laugh was right after their first kiss, Vi sputtering nervously into her slick wet mouth and Caitlyn doing everything she can to keep her own knees from buckling.
Caitlyn didn’t know it was going to be the last time. She would have done things differently if she knew.
The regret hits her hard.
Caitlyn completely freezes, hands trembling where they are holding the bag over Vi’s head. There’s something in her throat, choking her from the inside out, crawling into her stomach and laying eggs. She suddenly can’t see, can’t breathe, can’t move.
“Caitlyn?”

his face, you tremble as you caress it. remember years ago like it was yesterday, how he had laid in this exact position, just a different kind of monster, asking you to look after powder.
he is saying nothing now, and you don’t know whether that hurts you more or less. more tears run down your cheeks, but you look away.
because your sister still needs you, they all do.
but then you turn back around, because by god you love him still.
you love him. so you turn around.
and it is what almost kills you.
