Summary
“You’re late,” Desmond drawled, pushing off the car with a lazy stretch.
Wolfgang sighed. “I told you to stop leaning on the car like a delinquent.”
“You tell me a lot of things.” Desmond smirked, opening the passenger door for him. “Only about half stick.”
Wolfgang rolled his eyes and stepped forward—just as the first attacker lunged.

Summary
Desmond was efficient, a ruthless pacifist in a way that most people underestimated. He drove a knee into the attacker’s stomach, then used the momentum to shove him back against the alley wall.
The man crumpled but didn’t stay down. He reached for something in his coat—another weapon, maybe—his eyes wild with something Wolfgang recognized too well from his time spent in courtrooms.
Desperation.
