Summary
“I hate you too.” Chapman says but Rudyard knows he doesn’t mean it, the same way Rudyard doesn’t, not really. Once he did, a long time ago, but those days have passed and now most of the time he feels indifferent toward him, but there are times, like this, where he thinks he might be able to feel more. Rudyard knows that this is just a game to him, that all of this is just to get Rudyard into his bed and whatever he might be able to feel is one sided, but that doesn’t stop the feelings from rising in his chest anyway.

Summary
Years and years ago, Antigone had told him of the myth of Clytie, a nymph who so loved the god Apollo that when he spurned her for another lover she starved herself for nine days before he took pity on her and turned her into a flower so that each day she could watch him rise. Antigone spoke of it as something romantic, that a god could love someone so much that he would save her from starvation and turn her into something that could not live without him. But Rudyard had thought it a horror story, a woman who became so obsessed with someone she couldn’t have that she would rather die than live in a world where he wasn’t hers, and in turn that man cursed her to forever face him and follow the object of her obsession across the sky.

Summary
“You miss it.” Rudyard says, more a statement than a question.
“Sometimes.” Chapman admits quietly, as if the admission frightens him. “It can be boring here. Black and white like old TV, the same thing occurring on every channel in slightly different ways. But there are some things that bring color into the world.”
Rudyard hums softly in acknowledgement, his fingers still idly tracing the scar on his chest. He tries to imagine how it happened, how Chapman letting his guard down would lead to such a wound, what made it, how long it took him to recover, if he still sees it in the mirror and is transported back to that day, the permanent reminder carved into his skin forbidding him from forgetting. “Boring, eh? Never thought I’d hear you admit that.”

Summary
Eric takes a soft breath, leaning his head back against the wall as he looks up at the sky. The stars are extra bright tonight against the clear and perfectly dark sky. It’s almost like the sky itself is giving him a gift. He frowns, clenching his fists tighter against the thought. He doesn’t need any more gifts. The townsfolk had given him more than enough. He doesn’t need more things. He isn’t quite sure how he’ll even get them all back to his flat in his current state, let alone where he’s going to put them. Probably in labeled boxes in the hall cupboard, but he’ll worry about that later. Later. That’s a concept he’s still getting used to. There’s always going to be a later without an inevitable end where he can just abandon all of the things he doesn’t want and move on. He can still do that, he knows, but he doesn’t want to. Or at least he doesn’t think he doesn’t. Right now, in this moment at least, all he wants is to stay, he wants to make a home here, as tumultuous as it might be.

Summary
Once again Eric is struck by how hauntingly beautiful Rudyard is. Like he’d been carved from limestone just for him out of an image pulled from his deepest fantasies that he’d never known existed until he saw them set in front of him. Once, he’d been a statue, untouchable, cold and hard to the touch, but now, after all of the offerings Eric has left at his altar, he’s softened, grown warm and yielding. Eric wants nothing more than to reach out and pull him close, to feel his smooth skin melting beneath his touch, but he stands still, excited to see what Rudyard will do next, if his work up until now will yield anything beyond another argument.

Summary
It had all felt eerie, too silent, as if everyone had disappeared during the storm and the only person left on the island was Eric himself. Just him against what was left of the world. Maybe, he had thought, he had died and this was his purgatory. His heart had been too heavy and he was cursed forever to be trapped alone in his cold empty flat with nothing but his television for company. He had tried to shake the thought off but it had taken root and with each tick of the clock he felt more and more sure that he truly was dead and this was his own personal hell.
