Summary
Footsteps hastened into the hall as John began unbuttoning his coat, and he looked up to meet Neil’s eyes with a weak, halfhearted smile. “Long day,” he croaked, by way of an explanation.
In an instant, Neil’s expression softened into one of pity, and he stepped nearer to urge John’s coat off of his shoulders. “You poor thing,” he crooned, sweetly, and John surrendered to him, letting him take the soaked garment and lay it across a nearby chair to dry. “Your dinner’s in the oven—but let’s get you cleaned up first, yeah?”

Summary
James’s expression was openly pitying, and Henry flinched; he didn’t need his pity, not when it was James whose repeated failure had put them into this position. “He says that it defeats the purpose of the arrangement, if the lieutenants are already too close with one another. That we’re… supposed to be fostering new bonds, not hiding behind old ones.” James appeared genuinely uncomfortable to parrot the words, and Henry’s anger cooled momentarily as he was reminded that it wasn’t just him affected by this arrangement, as Sir John Barrow called it.
“That’s funny,” Henry drawled, sardonically, as he turned away from James and heavily sat himself down in a nearby chair. “That’s funny, considering Hodgson is also a pal of yours, and yet the Admiralty has no issue with forcing you to marry him.”

Summary
“Francis,” John said again, in a low murmur. “It’s obvious how tense you are. Won’t you let me lend a hand to a friend in need?” He tipped his head closer to Francis’s ear, until Francis could feel his breath teasing his skin. “It would be terribly improper for you to go on commanding like this, don’t you agree?”
Unfortunately, Francis couldn’t deny the interest stirring in his trousers, nor that it had been a long while since he’d last had a chance to find release. He’d been rather too busy trying to keep them all alive, after all. And, well, the fact that it was John wasn’t particularly ideal, but Francis supposed he couldn’t afford to be picky. For that reason alone, he acquiesced.
“Yes, alright,” Francis conceded, with a sigh, though he tried not to sound too terribly put off by it.

Summary
“Chin up,” Alex ordered, softly, and he emphasized his words by tapping two fingers on the underside of Stephen’s head, encouraging him to lift it. Stephen obeyed, seamlessly, his eyes following the line of Alex’s direction, and waited patiently as Alex unbuckled the gag and removed the headphones, placing both on the dresser before returning. “Good boy. You can speak, now, lad.” [...]
“Stephen? Pet?” Alex prompted, and Stephen abruptly realized that he had been waiting for him to say something.
“Apologies,” Stephen croaked, his voice rough from disuse, and he truly meant it. “Good evening, master.”
