Summary
A year after the conclusion of the case of the stolen astronomical research data, Oczy, Sunrise Bakery's newest employee and future university student hopeful, gets kicked out of his apartment.
At the same time, astronomy grad student Badeni's roommate moves out, leaving him with an empty half of a lease.
It seems like the natural course of action for them to move in together. They get along well enough, they've shared life-and-death experiences, and Oczy is probably one of the few people in the city who can stand having Badeni as a roommate.
Now if only Jolenta could stop putting ideas like 'Badeni being in love with him' into Oczy's head...

Summary
Tomorrow Schmidt will be baking shortcake. It’s a monthly event at the bakery - their regulars will show up in droves and Schmidt will set aside one cake for the employees. Even any of his coworkers who happen to have a day off will be there. Schmidt usually serves it without fruit, but maybe they can indulge just this once. Frei reaches out to pick up a box of strawberries -
His fingers brush against someone else’s.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” the person says. Frei looks up. A familiar set of spikes looks back.
Lewandowski seems surprised to see him. Frei wonders why. They’ve lived in the same neighborhood forever.

Draka walks out of the bakery and looks around. Schmidt’s motorcycle is parked by the back of the shop, so he’s definitely here. Does the building have a secret basement she doesn’t know about?
A small entryway by the back of the building catches her eye.
There’s an address plate pinned to one side. It’s one number up from the shop’s address.
So this is where he lives, Draka realizes, blinking at the numberplate. She’d known in a nebulous way that Schmidt lives above the bakery, but she’s never seen the entrance, and she’s never particularly cared enough to go looking.

“What are you gonna do if I don’t answer the door, huh?” Lewandowski asks, begrudgingly letting Frei in, closing his apartment door behind him. Frei is holding a small plastic bag. He starts taking off his shoes as though it’s completely natural. “Even I go out at night sometimes…!”
Frei’s fingers still on his shoes as he’s setting them to the side of the entryway. He looks up. Lewandowski isn’t used to having this vantage over him. Frei’s eyes are dark blue and unreadable. “You’re not doing this with anyone but me, are you?”
