Something moves in the corner of his eye. His head whips in its direction, adrenaline spiking because even though he’s been looking his first thought when he sees something move is--
But the only thing he sees is a flash of blond hair disappear around a corner across the street, leaving what looks to be an apartment complex. Running away; zombies don't run away. Varian's attention narrows down to the building they disappeared behind. Eugene is speaking to him, nudging Varian off the tailgate when he doesn’t jump off himself.
A person running away. Broken window, stolen med kit.
Varian vaguely registers Eugene’s noise of alarm as he bolts after them.

Summary
Infected are climbing over the car and pressing against the door as they both try to force it shut. Varian’s sneakers squeak against the flooring as more and more weight slams into the door.
“We need” —Varian yelps as another body colliding into it sends both of them forward an inch— “chairs, or a table, or something–”
“Grab it, I can hold them off.”
“Eugene–”
“Go,” Eugene urges. “I can handle it, just hurry.”
Varian uses his feet braced on the floor to shove himself back against the door, giving Eugene the tiniest bit of leverage before he rushes to grab whatever is closest.
His fingers close around the backrest of a chair, right before he hears Eugene’s sharp cry of “Kid!”

Eugene and Varian are trapped in an abandoned restaurant in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, low on ammo and even lower on hopes to get out of it unscathed.
