Summary
"You have done well, young soul," the lights announced. "For you have defeated your enemies and given us much entertainment."
I stared blankly at the cooling corpse and said nothing.
The lights continued unhindered, "With this final sacrifice, we have enough power to send you to your new life but don't worry, your history will stay much the same."
I glanced at the blue light that had followed me for my entire journey. It was silent, a paler blue than usual. I wondered if it knew this would happen.
I hadn't entered this competition willingly and I hadn't won it willingly either but it seems none of that mattered.
I'd won.
I'd lost everything.
