Summary
“I should’ve known that pursuing a relationship between a butterfly fairy and a moth fairy would never work out. I even fell in love with you, but that’s just a childish fantasy of wanting what I can’t have.”
If not for everything else Scaramouche said, Kazuha’s heart would’ve skipped a beat upon hearing that his feelings were reciprocated. Instead, it sinks. “We can make it work, though—”
“Leave. I don’t want you to give me any more false hope. This is for your own good.” Scaramouche interrupts, turning away from Kazuha completely.
OR
Fairies have long been divided into those who work in the daytime and those who work in the nighttime. It’s not very often discussed why this division exists, all of the fairies are content to follow this rule without ever questioning it. All except for one.
Kazuha meets a nocturnal fairy for the first time and his life is changed forever when he realizes the true reason behind this societal division and the consequences of breaking the rules for love.

Summary
“Kaedehara Kazuha.” Ei pauses for a moment. “I should’ve known you’d be too weak to let him go, even if he’s an enemy.” She states, her voice laced with disappointment.
“‘Let him go’? Mother, I love him and you can’t change that, I don’t care about the fucking war, we didn’t choose to be caught up in your conflict.” Kunikuzushi protests, finally able to let loose all the hidden resentment he had carried for his mother.

Summary
“Aren’t I proof that you don’t kill because of a hatred for humans?”
“Why won’t you just treat me like the monster I am? I could kill you at any time if I wanted and yet you continue to smile at me as if I was one of your kin.” Frustration and desperation ripple through his voice, his tail continuing to thrash about under the water.
“The people of my village have all sorts of tall tales about monsters lurking in the depths, luring the innocent with their songs before dragging them underwater to kill and eat. They talk of how these monsters do these things out of evil due to being the incarnation of hellspawn. But when I saw you, I knew for a fact that those stories were all lies.
“You’re not a monster, you’re just doing what you need to in order to live. That’s not something worthy of fear or violence like others may believe it is.”
OR
A siren named Scaramouche comes across a human with a beautiful singing voice who isn’t afraid of him. Against his better judgment, he lets the human live and allows him to become a close friend. Eventually, something beautiful and delicate blossoms between them.

Summary
“You don’t understand.” Is all Scaramouche says.
“So help me understand, then.” Kazuha states and the other’s hand curls into a fist, crumpling the bandages.
Scaramouche whips his head to face Kazuha as his voice raises, “I’m the reason you’re cursed! You should leave for your own good.”
Kazuha can’t help but protest, “That doesn’t bother me, I don’t feel any pain from it.”
“Well it should because whether or not you can feel it, it will still kill you.” But Kazuha makes no move to leave and Scaramouche lets out a sigh. “I’m a monster, you know.”
“Something tells me that’s not entirely true.”
OR
Kazuha inherits a curse that was placed upon his family and is promptly exiled from his village when the mark of the curse appears on his skin. A stranger comes across him in the forest and takes him in, tending to his injuries. But this stranger may have a bigger connection to his curse than Kazuha would initially assume.

Summary
“I am simply a bringer of death, there is no need for you to know me as anything other than a grim reaper.” Scaramouche says coldly.
Kazuha furrows his brow. “You say that and yet you spared me, why?”
The reaper lets out a short, exasperated huff. “You humans ask too many questions. All you need to know is that I do intend on reaping your soul as my duty dictates I must.”
“But is that what you want?”
Scaramouche pauses, the easy lie about his oath on the tip of his tongue and yet he finds himself unable to voice it. “It matters not what I want.”
“Of course it does. Everyone is allowed their own selfish desires, even if you did want to take my soul I wouldn’t object. Something tells me you don’t want to, though.” Kazuha easily replies as if it could ever be that easy for Scaramouche to follow his desires.
OR
Grim reaper Scaramouche is sent out to harvest the soul of a human named Kazuha. However, he initially chooses to spare the mortal and in the end, will he decide to prioritize his duty as a reaper over the desires of his foolish heart?

Summary
The kitsune spots Scaramouche and approaches him before transforming to a humanoid form to match the baku’s. The pink kitsune he had been expecting is nowhere to be found.
“Hello, my name is Kazuha. Do you perhaps know where Yae Miko is?” The kitsune speaks up, politely introducing himself with a beautifully melodic voice. Scaramouche takes a moment to respond, unsure of what Miko’s gotten him into this time.
“I’m Scaramouche. I don’t know where Miko is, but she probably invited us here for a reason…” The baku trails off, his face flushing with embarrassment as he realizes why Miko would’ve wanted him to meet Kazuha. He’s going to kill her later.
“In that case, would you like to take a stroll? It would be a shame to miss an opportunity to appreciate such a beautiful environment.” The words roll off Kazuha’s tongue like the notes of a song. Scaramouche can’t possibly resist.
OR
Yae Miko plays matchmaker and tries to set the baku Scaramouche up with a kitsune named Kazuha. What seems like an insignificant, brief encounter becomes a beautiful connection that Scaramouche never could’ve thought himself worthy of.

Summary
Countless moons pass by and all the while Ikigai’s desire to be human increases until it’s a constant ache in his heart. One night, Kazuha lays back and lets Ikigai settle onto his chest, though the human doesn’t fall asleep. After a moment, he says, “Aren’t the stars so beautiful tonight? It’s almost as if they’re sparkling.”
The raven turns himself over with some effort in order to see for himself. To Ikigai, the sky looks as it always does at night, though he takes Kazuha’s word for it. After all, the stars never look quite as bright as they do when the human is with him; maybe he’s the reason behind their apparent twinkling.
OR
Kazuha is best friends with a raven he named Ikigai, who he lives with in the forest. Ikigai watches over and helps protect Kazuha but finds himself longing for the ability to properly communicate with his human companion, even if he would have to become human himself.
