It's an habit and it's routine, so he does it mechanically, ignoring the nagging on his brain whispering for him to remember Alexander laughing at him for being silly on his kitchen and telling him to give him the economics section.
John reads it out of muscle memory. Still, when it happens, it startles him into dropping the mug on his hand."
