Summary
Fog pervades his mind. He can’t even focus long enough to look at their surroundings. His breath comes quick and shallow, and it’s all he can do to keep moving, to follow Zhongli as he weaves through the crowds.
There’s nothing good that this will accomplish. He just—he needs to escape. To go home. He needs to get away from Liyue. He needs to sink his blades into something that’ll shriek and sob as it dies.
Childe breaks, leaving Zhongli to pick up the pieces.

Summary
His breath comes shallow, ragged. A too-sharp sound that grates in his ears.
Zhongli. He’d promised Zhongli.
He’d promised Zhongli he’d try.
He has tried. He’d made it to Zhongli’s apartment plenty of times between then and now, but this is the first time he’s felt this urge while the sun still hangs overhead. Usually, his need sharpens as the sun sets, curling in his belly like a nocturnal phantom.
Childe visits Zhongli during the day.

Summary
“Isn’t it supposed to get better?” he asks the mirror. It’s new, gifted to him by Zhongli. “Zhongli cares for me,” he tells it. His voice wavers, the traitorous thing.
The mirror does not reply.
After Childe has a moment of weakness, Zhongli offers him comfort.

Summary
The wind rips at him. It tugs him closer to the cliff’s edge one second, then away the next, an oscillating push-pull that tangles his hair and upsets his balance.
Funny how, up here, Childe feels close to divinity in a way he’s rarely felt before.
Geo grounds him. Anemo lifts him. Below, the ocean glitters, an endless stretch of Hydro.
The days wear on Childe, and he grows tired.

Summary
“I wish I could stay home,” Zhongli murmurs, offering him another dumpling. “Even when I am at work, I miss you dearly.”
“I’ll be fine,” Childe says. He can’t even muster up a smile, but he rearranges his face into something he hopes is convincing enough. “Don’t worry about me.”
It’s too much.

Summary
Grief drives him. He follows the Fatui guards all the way to the boat, existing in a state of perpetual numbness. Something close to disbelief keeps him from snapping entirely.
Surely, if he hurries home right now, Childe will blink hazy blue eyes at him from where he lays tangled in the sheets. Surely the small, crumpled thing they took from him is not Childe.
A memory and a glimpse into Zhongli’s life.
