Summary
“It’s okay, y’know,” she says conversationally. Bucky doesn’t turn around, just hums a noise of question as he puts the bowl down and picks up a spoon, waits for her to continue whatever line of thought she’s decided to share.
Sarah thinks a lot. They can go hours watching Steve sleep under the pull of the newest bout, and say nothing to one another, and Bucky knows that every thought he thinks throughout his whole life will never be as intelligent as whatever she ponders idly while taking watch of her son.
“It’s okay that you’re in love w’ him.”
Bucky freezes.
(Or: Sarah Rogers is wise, and just wants her boys to be safe and happy.)

Summary
Winifred knows, when Bucky doesn’t come home that night.
And its not just because Bucky doesn’t come home; that just confirms it. She’s had a heavy dark feeling in her gut for the past week, listening to Bucky talk about the goings-on of the Rogers’ household when he had a late supper after the girls had gone to bed, and from when she stopped by with a loaf of bread under her arm.
Call it mother’s intuition, call it a charlatan claim, call it whatever, but Winifred knows without question that Sarah Rogers has passed on.
(Or: Winifred Barnes loved Sarah too.)

Summary
It’s not the Rogers’ who were (are) fierce by blood, patriotism burning brightly in their souls like they could ignite the whole country into flares; it was the O’Brien clan, whose culture was robbed from them like it was meaningless, who learnt Gaeilge in hedges when the British made their language illegal, who lit torches in every failed rebellion.
(Or: Sarah believed in the future.)
