Summary
In "Reflections of Power: The Fear of Becoming, the Desire to Transcend," Dazai Osamu and Fyodor Dostoevsky, two of Yokohama’s most dangerous minds, grapple with their deepest fears and desires. Dazai, whose ability nullifies others’ powers, secretly dreads the idea of possessing Fyodor’s deadly “Crime and Punishment,” fearing it would strip him of his identity and lead him to an existence devoid of challenge or purpose. On the other hand, Fyodor longs for Dazai’s Nullification, believing it would make him untouchable, granting him the freedom to dominate the world without fear of death or opposition. When the two confront each other, they realise they are trapped by their own powers and desires, forever haunted by the reflection of what they could become if their abilities were reversed. The true conflict lies not between them, but within themselves—Dazai’s fear of losing control and Fyodor’s yearning for immortality.
