"Becky! Becky!" Anya cried, bounding over to where her best friend was just stepping out of her limo.
"I'm gonna get the world's best birthday present for Second Son! He's totally gonna love it and invite me over so that I can show him that my mister doggy is the better mister doggy!"
(and then Papa would get to meet Second Son's dad and he'd do his super cool spy stuff, and there would be world peace forever, Anya finished in her head.)
"Oh my, Anya!" Becky giggled, fanning her face with both hands, letting her schoolbag crash forgotten onto the ground. "You certainly don't give up till you get what you want, do you?"
Anya nodded, smirking like a cat. She was totally gonna win the Friendship Scheme.
Just upon arriving at Eden College one fateful morning, Anya spots Emile and Ewen whispering to each other all secretively near a few bushes. They scurry away as soon as they see her, of course, but it's a good thing she can read minds because she gleans one very important detail. Damian Desmond, the scion of the exalted Desmond family, would be turning seven years old next week. It doesn't take very long at all for the gears in Anya's head to start working overtime.
