Summary
Charles understands that he's made of parts. If he were to use an analogy, he's driving a bus, and the parts of him hop on for a ride from time to time. He's had a lot of time to work on not letting those parts of him drive the bus off a cliff or into the ocean, and a lot of people to work on them with. What he hasn't had before is a navigator, there to help him find his bearing, or to tell him when to make a stop.
If he ever got back in the driver's seat, then this analogy would be really effective. Luckily, he's falling in love with a writer who is much better at that sort of thing.

Summary
Charles is good at picking up on the mood that begins to approach them. Millie has mentioned it in some of their more scandalous, illicit conversations. She's particularly interested in the sort of period scandal that Pidgerton has in droves. She's made it no secret that she wants to have sex in a carriage. The logistics of that make it feel pretty impossible. Or they did, anyway.
