Summary
The creature crashed into him, sending them falling back into the snow. White-hot pain laced up the side of his neck and through his shoulder as he felt the creature's teeth sinking into his flesh. Grian screamed in pain, shoving and hitting at the creature to make it let go, but it only dug in deeper.
He could feel blood bubbling up out of the wound, spilling onto the snow and turning the once white blanket beneath them red. Grian cried out again as the thing tightened its hold, razor-sharp teeth digging into his skin.
Grian desperately fought against it, blood roaring in his ears as his heart beat frantically in his chest, gasping for air between the cries of agony. His nails ripped at the thing's feathers, knees hitting against its stomach over and over.
The creature was determined to kill him.
Grian could feel his heart in his throat, tears stinging his eyes from a combination of pain and fear.
He was going to die here.
or, Two months after the end of the world, Grian meets a lonely survivor who seems determined to win over his trust. All the while, Grian is fighting a battle between his mind and heart, desperate to keep his secret hidden.

Summary
"Scar—be careful!" Grian hissed, following after Scar with slower steps.
"Come on, G!" Scar called back playfully.
Grian sighed softly, faintly wondering how he'd become stuck with this man. In some ways, it was like following an overeager puppy.
He stepped over a patch of exposed rocks, his boots slipping slightly on the ice. He was about to call out to Scar to warn him of the rocks, but suddenly, the man vanished from sight as a sharp crack sounded through the forest. A loud splash quickly followed.
or, When Scar falls through the ice, Grian is forced to turn to more unexpected means of preventing hypothermia. Shared body heat.

Summary
Grian still looked skeptical, his eyes flicking from Scar's face to the lake, but after a moment of contemplation, he sighed. "Just so you know, if you fall in again, I am not going in after you."
Scar laughed, tugging Grian forward through the snow again. "Noted."
He stepped onto the ice first, following his previous footprints as he moved backward, guiding Grian onto the ice with him. The light of the lantern between them flickered softly, a few stray flakes of snow drifting into the air around them.
Grian's hand tightened around Scar's own, his other darting out to steady himself against Scar's arm.
Scar chuckled softly, his own steps just a bit steadier than Grian's. "Careful," he teased, his breath puffing into the air around his face.
Grian scowled up at him, still struggling to balance his footing. "Is this really what you pulled me out of bed for?"
"Of course!" Scar scoffed, stepping carefully as he led Grian further out towards the center. "Have you never done this before?"
or, Scar drags Grian out of the shack to have some fun

Summary
Scar just shushed him, stumbling slightly in the dim light as he made his way over to the woodbox beside the fireplace. "Ugh—why's it so dark?" He complained, struggling to find the latch to open the box.
Grian rolled his eyes, a soft laugh escaping him. "Because it's night?"
"But still—"
A sound of rustling outside cut Scar's words off, causing them both to tense.
Grian was already moving halfway off the bed, his eyes trained on the door. More rustling noises came from outside. Someone was out there.
Or, maybe something.
He glanced over to Scar, who had stiffened, the firewood now completely forgotten as he stood frozen by the dying light of the fireplace. They shared a quick glance, a sickening realization dawning on them at the same time.
That rustling…it sounded an awful lot like feathers.
or, Grian wakes up from one nightmare and is sent straight into another
