I never wanted to be a demigod. Much less did I want to arrive at a camp full of armed kids, hidden monsters, and gods with parenting issues. And I definitely didn't want to meet Elara Sterling.
She didn't want to meet me either.
(Don't exaggerate, Jackson. I just thought you were unbearable.)
From day one, we didn't get along. Not well. We fought about everything: strategies, rules, personal space… even oxygen. The weird thing is, according to everyone, it wasn't hate. It was something else. Something neither of us was ready to admit.
Then the spider appeared.
A bite.
A mistake.A curse.
After that, nothing felt normal again. We started looking at each other differently, feeling things that didn't fit with how much we claimed to despise each other. I tried to ignore it. Elara rationalized it. Neither of us won.
