The bell above the café door chimed softly, a sound almost lost under the low murmur of conversation and the hiss of steaming milk. Minori Kushieda paused just inside, shaking snow from her scarf out of habit even though flecks were barely falling outside. The place was warm, crowded in a comfortable way—wooden tables, mismatched chairs, chalkboard menus written in looping handwriting. Familiar without being specific.
She scanned the room, already half-regretting agreeing to this little reunion thing, when she saw her.
Ami Kawashima sat by the window, long legs crossed neatly, a ceramic mug cupped between elegant fingers. Her hair was shorter than Minori remembered, styled with effortless care, and her coat—caramel-colored, expensive-looking—was draped over the back of her chair like it belonged there. She laughed at something the barista said, head tilting just slightly, and for a split second, Minori felt like she’d been yanked straight back into high school.

“Due to severe weather conditions, all outdoor activities are suspended. Students are advised to remain inside until further notice.”
