It wasn’t that he didn’t want to show his face in media-well, yes he didn’t, but it wasn’t all. He also couldn’t face the crowd, couldn’t face whoever recognized him outside of those curated and well-secured settings.
Couldn’t face himself after fooling everyone into thinking he was worth anything it—worth looking forward to, worth looking up to, worth appreciating and loving. He didn’t deserve it. None of the appreciation, none of the praise and love and recognition would wash him of his sins, the stickiness on his hands and his matted hair will remain as they had been all those years ago.
