Summary
The day after the Hour of Joy, DogDay searches the ruined factory. In the damaged hospital wing's maternity ward, he finds a newborn baby alone and crying in a crib. Born during the massacre with no parents in sight, the infant has been abandoned in the wreckage. Despite knowing the complications this will create, DogDay can't leave him behind. He picks up the baby, gathers supplies, and begins the long, dangerous walk back to Playcare, navigating collapsed corridors and treacherous catwalks one-handed while carrying the child. The baby stops crying midway through the journey and watches the ceiling with quiet attention. As they near Playcare, Mini Critters appear and escort them to the door. CatNap answers, takes in the situation with his characteristic calm, and wordlessly steps aside to let DogDay enter with the baby. DogDay crosses the threshold into home, still uncertain what he'll say to the others, but knowing he's already made his choice. He didn't decide to keep the baby, he just never put him down.
