Ilya knew it was too early to propose to Shane, he knew that. His beautiful, boring boyfriend might’ve planned out the next ten years and beyond retirement, but Ilya also knew that Shane was not great with unexpected changes. If Ilya moved too quickly with this, he would spook Shane and that was the last thing he wanted to do.
Still – Ilya felt ready for this. He knew Shane was the one for him, his forever.
----or: It's Ilya's last season with the Raiders before he moves to Ottawa, he knows, Shane knows, the management knows. In just a few short months, his life has changed so drastically - he get's to call Shane his boyfriend now. But he Does Not Want That, No, he would much rather call Shane his Fiancé instead. So he takes it upon himself to make it happen. Only, it doesn't go as planned. So he tries again - and something else comes up.

There is snowfall outside TD Garden. Ilya can see the white blobs falling down on the North Station train tracks from where he stands, just in front of the office of management.
He hopes Shane’s flight tomorrow won’t be impacted, way too excited to see his (boy)friend. They haven’t seen each other in weeks, two months actually, now that he thinks about it.All eleven reporters, the camera people, and even the Raiders’ social media intern stare after him in confusion. Shane Hollander was his respected friend?

Now, sitting in his car, in the garage, he heard the Green Line screech to a halt one story below him and finally felt his phone vibrate, the signal he had been waiting for.

It's Ilya's last season in Boston. When they finally have a three-day break in the second week of December, between games, practices and team meetings, Shane takes a flight to see his boyfriend (he still can't believe he can finally say that!).Very sweet, relatively short. Ilya picks Shane up from the airport.
