“Is everything ready?” he asked the shadow, his voice nearly a growl as he swapped out his radio filter in favor of a more bestial tone.
It nodded enthusiastically, its jagged mouth stretched wide.
Alastor closed his eyes and focused his other senses. Deer might be prey animals, but that never stopped him from utilizing his ruminant features to hone his skills as a predator. He listened for any difference in the familiar ambient sounds of the bayou, though he knew his quarry would remain silent. He inhaled deeply, taking in the strong odors of greenery and bogwater. He turned his head this way and that until his sensitive nose picked up the smell he was looking for:
Leather.
