The sound of Kate’s voice hit her like a physical projectile, that honey-purr melting into molten heat right in her core. Jill exhaled so sharply it almost buckled her knees, a breath yanked straight out of her chest and made her head spin, but maybe that was just Kate; Kate leaning against the glass doors that opened out onto the balcony in nothing but a champagne-coloured bathrobe, and the world outside could have been collapsing into fire and ruin and Jill would still have been anchored, helplessly, completely, to that single sight, to the unfair, effortless way Kate existed as the goddess Jill would worship on hands and knees.
