Derek became a streamer, Avery continued his channel. Also, when Derek merged with the King, it didn't kill him: it just made his eyes blurry and Derek can here the king in his mind (usually mocking him). And the infinite knowledge is still there, but Derek has to purposely be looking for information to find it (like Google).
