Summary
Steve doesn’t think he’ll ever get the sickly metallic smell of blood out of his nose.
No, really, he feels like it’ll never come out of his skin or out from under his nails or out of his clothes. He feels like it’ll just haunt him for the rest of his life, drift like cartoon stink lines behind him, acting as the worst shadow a person could have.
He also doesn’t think he’ll get rid of the image of Billy pushing his own intestines back into his body, holding them in place with slippery, shiny hands. And he was still trying to forget about those demon dogs and that thing at the Byers’ house that night, forgetting the smell of dead animal and the feeling of slimy, mucousy spit and alien chirping noises. So now, his nightmares are oil-slick with Billy’s blood, and echoing with the sounds of his death rattle.

Billy wants Steve Harrington to tear him apart and fit him back together again, like some sort of macabre puzzle, like Frankenstein’s Monster, like the breaking of bones under pressure, like–
Like the Shadow never found him and did it first.
He wants Steve to take bites out of him and shape him into something new. He wants Steve’s fingers in his guts again, reassembling him from the inside out.
He wants Steve Harrington viscerally and with a violence he has never known how to contain, but was taught where it belongs while fireworks flared around him and a little girl reached into his brain and pulled him back into his own body with hands so small they barely fill out Billy’s palms.
