Safi pouted. She slipped down the rail, hit a switch with her palm, and lit the foyer blinding.
“Why, you got somewhere better to be?”
Safi turned up knocking after Max and Chloe's date.

They were at a standstill. Safi brushed flyaways from her face and sighed. Max fought the urge to complain about how rude she was being, but even though the shrooms had invaded her system, her memory hadn’t flagged. She was the one who basically kicked her out, after all.
“Look, I’m really sorry about last night. I wouldn’t have…you could’ve stayed.”
“Sure. How’s your girlfriend dealing with the fact we slept together?”
Safi found Max high at the Abraxas House instead.

“One more round,” Max said.
Safi slipped off her stool, and Max watched her dark hair disappear in the crowd. They hadn’t gotten to really talk about anything other than the fire—they’d been going all night, but Safi was skirting around everything with pointed avoidance, and Max was getting jittery. She had heard it all from Chloe; Safi nearly killed herself. They had slept together. Twice.
So why did it feel like nothing had changed at all?
