Eventually, Ilya says, “You remember that day, yes? When we were twelve?”
“Yes,” Shane breathes. “I do, I remember. It was – I knew something terrible happened.”
Ilya gasps for air, raising his head enough to look at Shane. His face is flushed and his eyelashes clumped together with tears. Shane knows Ilya can feel his heart break, doubts it’s useful right now, but he’s helpless to stop it.
