Summary
Olivia suddenly pulled back hard.
"Ow." Oscar reached instinctively to guide her back.
She frowned in disgust and he looked down. A sharp sting spread across his nipple a beat later, and when he adjusted his shirt, he saw it: just a thin crack on the flushed skin, barely anything, but enough that a small bead of blood had escaped. He'd barely processed it before Olivia's face crumpled.
"Eww, mummy," she announced, pulling back and making full-body "grabby hands" toward Lando.
Lando looked over immediately. "What happened, babes?"
"Nothing," Oscar said, quickly trying to cover his breast. "Aw, Liv, you don't want more milk?"
Lando startled out a confused laugh. "No more, da-da. Wanna play."
Or Olivia is two years old, and she's decided she doesn't want mama's milk anymore. Oscar knows it's normal. He knows. He just didn't think it would happen so fast.

Summary
He got the sock out. He unrolled it carefully and the ring sat in his palm: plain, gold, one small modest stone, because Oscar hated anything flashy and would have personally thrown a flashy one into the sea on principle.
Olivia stopped breathing.
"It's a ring," Lando whispered. "For Mama."
"For Mama," she breathed back.
"I'm going to ask him to marry me. Here. This week. And it has to be a surprise, so he doesn't know, so it's special. Do you understand?"
Olivia nodded so hard a curl fell across her eye. She did not, in fact, fully understand but she understood the crucial parts: Daddy had given her a Job, the Job was Important, and she was being trusted with something Mama himself was not allowed to have. Power flooded through her small body like warm milk.
Or five times Olivia almost spilled the beans (+ one time she just did it for him, because someone clearly had to).Series
