Abandonment is one hell of a weapon.
After five years of working within the Red Army in exchange for his friends-family, really-saftey Tom is struck with the news that those exact same friends have publicly denounced him and called him a war criminal. After years of them being used as the collar that Red Leader-Tord-could tighten around his neck, he finds himself spiraling.
Five years of working for his enemy. Five years of forced sobriety. Five years of doing what he could to become numb to death and war.

Summary

Edd and Matt see a news bulletin that says that Tord may well be the enigmatic and faceless Red Leader. The war has already been dragging on for a year at this point and, the ever optimistic idealist, Edd thinks that if they join the Resistance and some how manage to get face to face with Tord, they could talk him out of the insanity he is doing.
By they, Edd meant just him and Matt. Except, as he is excitedly explaining his plan, Tom shows up.
