Lando stared at Max, wide-eyed. He wanted to crack a joke but nothing came out.
“But Charles… he’s not wired like me. He felt more. Took it seriously when I thought I could keep it light.”
Lando’s chest tightened. He could feel it, the truth under the shrug.
“Oscar’s the same. More like Charles than like me. Than like you. He’ll feel it heavier. Carry it longer. You mess him around, you won’t just hurt him, you’ll regret it yourself.”
