Stolas’ exile has come to an end.
But for Hen, the youngest of his siblings, it means only one thing: now that their family name has been restored, nothing stands between her and the arranged marriage Paimon sealed for her with Andrealphus. “Ow! Watch where you are going!”
He realized too late that he had bumped into something, into someone. Against his back and neck, he felt the soft texture of feathers, while the hat pulled low over his head slipped away and swayed down until it settled on the ground.
He turned while he was still trying to formulate some acceptable apology. With his arms crossed, a whole head taller than him, an avian demon stared at him with a slightly annoyed look. The bird was motionless, perhaps waiting to receive an apology. But Rooster’s gaze darted over the yellow and black plumage of his face and neck, his elegant posture, the blue pinstriped suit, as if he had just stepped out of an office.
“You look… bizzarre,” the demon exclaimed, continuing to observe him. The instinctive fear that he could see beyond his glamour paralyzed his thoughts for an instant.
“Ah, yes, it is my first time here,” he answered, bringing a hand to the back of his neck. “I grew up…” Come on, Rooster, think. “We Goetic demons from Sloth are all like this.”
