Summary
He was obedient because it was easier than screaming at his mother for doing this to him. He was quiet because too many of his thoughts couldn’t be spoken aloud. He was helpful because he felt like a burden who had to prove every day he deserved to just breathe and exist and be.
And the only time he felt even a small taste of freedom, the only time he felt like he could be even a fraction of his full self, was when he was doing something wrong. He needed that rebellion from the boxes they tried to stuff him into, from the crushing weight of his bastardry. Every day it felt like there were iron bands around his lungs slowly suffocating him to death and the only thing that loosened them was transgression.
After Driftmark, Luke was pat on the head and told not to blame himself. Everyone else saw it as a kindness, Luke saw it as erasure. Now back in the Red Keep, he has found the one person who knows the dark, disgusting truth of him as Luke sees himself. Aemond, the Omega he maimed. And it just so happens that there's a crack between the bricks just big enough to watch through if you know the secret tunnels well enough.
