Summary
"I came here thinking I was probably going to die here eventually, nothing dramatic, just in a deeply inconvenient, chronic illness sort of way."
She has survived the city by keeping everything at a safe distance. Inheriting her grandmother's overgrown farm on Coral Island is supposed to be her final chapter. Her plan is simple: fix the house, tend the soil, and wait for the ancient curse branching beneath her skin to finally drag her under.
But the island has other plans.
Down in the dark, the dying reef is calling to her in broken Merakih. The deep water is demanding a sacrifice. A hostile merfolk stands guard at the borders of the submerged kingdom that once exiled her mother. And on the surface, the local marine biologist is desperately trying to pull her back to a world she was fully prepared to leave behind.
She came to the island to surrender to the tide. She didn't expect to find a reason to swim against it.
