Summary
It was peak heat in the day by the time Coley rode away from the lake, but the wind and dampness of her clothes and hair helped to cool her off. It had nothing to do with the new memory of the girl she just met etching into her brain, altering the expectations she had for this summer. And it definitely didn’t have anything to do with the fact that she felt hopeful to see her again. She’s barely spent an hour with Sonya, knows nothing about her - yet the way her eyes sparked with curiosity when she spoke, the curve of her mouth when she smiled, and the way she lit up all of Coley’s senses already made her feel on top of the world.
Coley stood, cruising on her bike down the long narrow highway, letting the breeze take her the rest of the way back to Curtis’ house. “Message her,” she muttered, reminding herself of the promise she made. At this point in her life she doesn’t feel obligated to keep promises, especially to strangers. But maybe it wouldn’t hurt just to make an account. She can’t keep her promise if she doesn’t even have a screen name.
