Summary
Simon didn’t find it fair.
Despite all the compensation, all the rewards—he even got a free bionic arm, for God’s sake—Simon was unsatisfied. He felt like he’d been done dirty. It wasn’t fair that he had to go back into normal civilization so quickly when he was certainly not even close to being mentally, emotionally, or physically stable. It had only been a year after all, and despite all the money he’d been given he had only been able to afford so many therapy sessions.
Simon was fed up, and lonely, and nobody understood what he’d gone through or even tried. Nobody cared about the nightmares he still had, about the things he’d see when it was dark or grey, about the feelings he’d get when there was just too much going on.

Summary
“Okay,” Ryland sighed after he finished his cereal. “I’ll visit him today.”
“And bring me with?” Rocky exclaimed excitedly.
“If you promise to be good,” Ryland said, using the tone he would on a misbehaving cat, “you can come with to the café.”
“Yesss!” Rocky pumped his fist through the air, grinning. Ryland rolled his eyes fondly. “Don’t worry, Grace, I’ll get his number for you.”
“The hell you will,” Ryland sneered in response. “You’ll probably directly tell him that I want it for romantic and/or sexual purposes.”
“You talk like a book,” Rocky groaned, neither confirming nor denying Ryland’s statement.

Ryland has been visiting Simon for a while now, and let's be honest: it's perfect. He loves it. They both love it, as far as Ryland can tell. There's no one he'd rather be spending an excessive amount of time with (though he would never tell Rocky that). Despite Rocky's strange insistence that the tension between them is romantic, Simon's walls that Ryland is struggling to bring down, and Ryland's own anxiety and trauma beginning to catch up with him, life couldn't be better.
