Summary
“Is it really you?” Ryan clutches the lighter in his hand like a lifeline.
“Fuck, Ryan, what’s all this? Why are you alone?” Naim sounds exactly as exasperated as he’d expect, dropping his backpack unceremoniously onto the floor and kicking it off to the side.
It’s all perfectly normal, but it isn’t enough proof yet. They talked about a secret code, a handshake, a phrase, anything to let the other know it’s really them, but the entity would know it the second they do. They decided on giving each other a call, sending a text, something the entity couldn’t possibly emulate. It’s not yet a tried and tested method, but he supposes there’s no time like the present.
Ryan holds out the lighter, trying to keep his bearings. “You know what to do,” he says, voice trembling pathetically.Series

Summary
“I didn’t think you’d come today,” Ryan says, sounding almost relieved, but something is just terribly off about the way he says it. Like he’s not really talking to Naim.
Ryan twirls the lighter around a few times before putting it on the bedside table. Naim swallows around a lump in his throat. There are still ways to get to it, but that definitely means this isn’t Ryan. Right?
“We don’t need that just yet, do we?” Ryan’s voice drops a little lower and Naim suppresses a shiver at the suggestive cadence. He hasn’t heard it in a while, due to no fault but his own, and fuck, he missed it.
Ryan folds back the blanket and pats his lap, “Come here.”
