Summary
The chorus of Paramore’s crushcrushcrush bounced off the brick walls in a muffled thump as Beca quickly pushed the restroom door open with her shoulder.
"I'm blaming Stacie if I miss the next round," she muttered to the redhead following behind her. "Nobody needed to hear a fifteen-minute story about the guy she met in line for mozzarella sticks."
Chloe laughed softly and the sound was bright enough to drown out the bass for a moment. "You say that now, but we both know you're going to end up asking how it ends."
"I absolutely am not."
"You absolutely are,” Chloe said, booping the brunette’s nose.
Beca rolled her eyes, though she couldn’t help the smile and pink blush that quickly emerged.
The restroom was mercifully empty.

Summary
“I'm home,” she called and there was no answer, which was a touch unusual. The house was strangely quiet for a Saturday night. Most of the girls were out but Chloe could hear the faint murmur of the television somewhere downstairs.
She kicked off her shoes.
“Beca?”
Nothing.
Chloe smiled faintly to herself because of course, Beca was probably locked in her room with her headphones on, making some impossible little remix that no one else would’ve ever even thought about or that only she could hear properly. She had developed a habit of disappearing into her music whenever…well…on most days, actually.

Summary
The first time Juno flirted with Chloe, Chloe didn't even realize it was flirting. Actually, most customers were a little flirty to Chloe (I mean, how could you not be?) but she never noticed until after the fact.
She was three hours into her shift, halfway through steaming a pitcher of milk, when the blonde girl at the end of the counter leaned forward and said, “You know, I think you're my favorite part of this place.”
Chloe blinked. Then she smiled. “Oh. Awe! Thank you.”
Juno smiled back and it was a very pretty smile. That, Chloe noticed, but what she didn't notice was the way Juno's eyes lingered—on her eyes, on her body, on her lips when she was taking her order. She only really understood what was happening when Juno left a fifteen-dollar tip on an iced americano and scribbled a phone number on the back of the receipt with the note text me sometime :)

Summary
Chloe Beale sat cross-legged on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She had been staring at it for eleven minutes, not that she was counting. Beside her, the lamp cast a warm pool of light over her rumpled sheets. A textbook had been abandoned somewhere near her pillow hours ago, open to the same page she'd been pretending to read for the better part of an hour. She wasn't thinking about school. She wasn't thinking about finals. She wasn't even thinking about the World Championship.
Well, okay…she was thinking about the World Championship. She was always thinking about the World Championship as of lately.
Every rehearsal had become a reminder of their future, every note feeling like it matters more than the last. Every time Beca suggested a new arrangement, Chloe could practically hear the imaginary clock ticking down toward the moment when they would either prove themselves or become a cautionary tale. And Beca was almost worse.

Summary
The first thing Beca noticed was Chloe's hand. It was resting against the back of Chicago's neck—warm and familiar, fingers curled gently against his skin as she laughed at something he'd said. The second thing Beca noticed was the way Chloe looked at him. That really was always the worst part. Beca had spent years watching Chloe look at people. She knew the difference between Chloe being friendly and Chloe being interested. She knew the particular tilt of her head, the way her eyes lingered, the little smile that started in one corner of her mouth. This was interested. This was more than interested.
And then she kissed him. Beca stood near the wall with her hands shoved into the pockets of her jacket, staring at the two people in front of her as something inside her seemed to fold neatly in half. The Bellas were laughing and hugging one another but Beca heard none of it.
Instead, a song started playing in the back of her head, one she'd heard a thousand times. Somebody said you got a new friend. Does she love you better than I can?
