“I'm busy,” Nesta clipped. "I'm at my sisters'.”
“Right. I figured. I don't know what I was thinking.” A pause. “I just... I’m leaving tomorrow. And it feels like we left things unfinished.”
“We left things fine.”
“We did?” He cleared his throat. “It doesn't feel fine.”
Silence stretched again. Nesta pressed her shoulder against the wall, staring at nothing.
“I wanted to see you tonight,” he said finally, less confident now. “Before I go.”---------
Nesta Archeron returns home after a decade away from her sisters. When she unexpectedly meets Major Cassian Whakatāne, their paths keep crossing. The reality gets more complicated when her sister gets engaged to one of his brothers. Summary of Marching to the Rhythm:
Nesta returns to Australia after a decade in Europe and she's struggling to fit back into her old life. Cassian is not making it easier, clearly interested in Nesta. When they finally give each other a shot, their insecurities get the better of them. After what seemed like an impossible betrayal, or miscommunication of the year, they find their way back to each other, only to break up for good, driving Cassian to leave for six months.
