  Summary

Satine Ansel and Ari Acrux have their own motives for crossing the Parapet, neither of them long-time hopefuls of joining the Riders Quadrant. Satine has a role to fill once she crosses: to keep Violet Sorrengail alive. Meanwhile, Ari is doing her best to survive in a place she was ill-equipped to be in. But when Ari's signet manifests, she begins to resent it and all the family secrets that it brings to light. Between classes, boys, and the challenges of Basgiath, the two do everything they can to survive to their Second Year.
