Remy leaned forward, blinking back tears as he studied her face, trying to memorize it. The small scar on her brow, the tilt of her smile, the deep green of her eyes. He drank in every detail, trying to carve it into his memory. He carded his hand through her hair, nodding.
He caught her hand in his, expecting the pull of her powers to draw from him. Instead, he felt nothing. He opened his mouth in question, but was pulled down by her hand, her lips clumsily finding his.
He inhaled sharply before melting into the kiss, his hand in her hair pulling her closer to him. Suddenly, he felt out of body. A push of power surged through him, then nothing.

The nightmares hadn’t left him; he wasn’t sure they ever would. Even with Rogue beside him as he slept, he’d wake up clawing at his chest, grasping the sheets, looking for her. Gambit was back in Genosha, pleading to God or anyone who would listen that she would live. But in his dreams, she never did.
