Down below, Dunk’s life plays out in an endless trek across the country alongside old man Arlan, which suddenly comes to an end with a funeral and settling down in London. Ordinary work for ordinary wages, amateur rugby on the weekends, a liver pickled in pubs, and lending a hand to good old mates. A beat-up Ford Transit is the only inheritance left from the old man. And driving lessons conveniently turn up in a brochure from a charity centre at a temptingly low price.

Miles away and far above that world, after a sickening crash and a scandalous fall from the Formula 1 podiums, former driver Aerion finds himself stuck at the Martell Driving Charity Centre on a pit stop. Shoved into the role of a driving instructor for snotty teenagers and working blokes, he serves his time bored out of his mind to claw his way back into motorsport.

Until one day, a new student lands right on his head.
