  Summary

Shane and Ilya have done everything right, with years of waiting, planning, and hoping. After too many almosts and not-quites, they go to one more adoption event with no expectations.

But one quiet conversation—and one perfect baby—turn “maybe” into something a lot more dangerous: hope.

And hope, it turns out, has a way of asking for more than they expected.

(AKA: hurt/comfort, so much yearning, accidental family, angst with a payoff, and yes—a hard-won happy ending)
