Summary
Ryland shrieks out, stumbling backwards.
He hits the corner of the little gap in the plastic playground, the small space where kids can grab onto the top of the twisty pole and jump to the ground below— so, so far below, what seems like miles and miles from up here.
For a moment, he tries to grab onto Colt, and Colt lets go of the other kid, stumbles forward for Ryland’s hand. His fingers close around empty air, and their eyes meet, and Ryland is terrified, and then he is gone, disappearing backwards, there one second and then he’s just— not, anymore.
or: ryland gets hurt badly on the playground. his family comes together to protect him.
