Jude’s sent him a dozen texts, and each makes Erling smile more than the last. He knew, when he did it, that Jude would understand. That he would see the celebration and know that Erling had done it for him. It might be risky, considering that there’s been so much attention on them lately, especially on the two of them together, but he doesn’t care.

Summary
The moment he’s free, Jude heads backstage again, dropping the bills he’d made into his locker and walking to the back staircase. He doesn’t stop to talk to any of the other dancers, but none of them exactly want to talk to him either. They know he’s Erling’s favorite, and he knows they’re all jealous. Whatever.
He climbs the stairs slowly, his heart racing. He’s a little sweaty from the stage lights, but Erling’s never cared before and Jude knows he won’t care now, either. It’s dark in the stairwell, and the lighting in the hallway to Erling’s office is low. The music from downstairs has picked up again, the stage closed temporarily, the dance stage turning into a regular dance floor for a while. Lights flash across the hallway, reds and purples and blues, and Jude stops before the door at the end of the hall.
He knocks twice, and the door swings open half a second later.
Erling looks pissed.—
