Summary
In a modern AU of *The Apothecary Diaries*, Maomao works as a forensic toxicologist in a police department, solving cases with the same sharp mind, dry humor, and dangerous curiosity she always has.
Jinshi, unfortunately, is still Jinshi.
Beautiful, persistent, impossible to ignore, and now in a position that gives him far too many excuses to appear in her lab.
Between investigations, poisonings, late nights, unsweetened coffee, stolen glances, and feelings Maomao would much rather classify as an inconvenience, the line between professional interest and something far more personal begins to blur.

Summary
You don’t really need to read Part 1 first, but it does explain how Maomao and Jinshi got to this point.
This is a modern police AU where Jinshi is the director of an investigative complex and Maomao is the head of toxicology. They’ve worked together for about two and a half years and, for most of that time, managed to avoid doing anything useful about the fact that there was clearly something between them.
That only started changing recently.
Jinshi confessed. They went on a first date. They had their first kiss.
Then Maomao was kidnapped and woke up missing three years of memories, including Jinshi.
After she got them back, she realized she had liked him for much longer than she had originally thought.
So she asked him to be her boyfriend.
This part is basically what comes after that.
