Summary
' "I take it back," Shouyou says. "You really are a brute." He raises his hand to slap Kageyama again, this time across the other cheek, strikes quickly—
Kageyama catches his wrist in his hand. "Yes, I am," he tells Shouyou, as he kisses his palm softly enough to lay doubt to that claim. He grazes his lips across Shouyou's still uncalloused skin, down to the inside of his wrist, kisses him there, mouth warm, and Shouyou is powerless.'
--
It is respectful, to call the captain of a vessel by his rightful title. Even if he is a pirate.

Summary
'There perched on Shouyou's head sits Kageyama's captain's hat, and over his shoulders is one of Kageyama's finest silk shirts (taken right off the back of a town governor in a raid). On Shouyou's feet, Kageyama notes, with a surge of irritation, are his high leather boots, that he just polished that very morning.
They're too large for the small village boy, and even from his spot lurking in the doorway, Kageyama can see the dark leather's been scuffed, most likely because Shouyou can't walk straight in them. They extend well past his knees and the feet are too large—he wobbles with every step he takes.'
--
The newest stowaway on board Kageyama's ship is still learning the ropes.

Summary
'Kageyama tells Shouyou to point in any direction, as long as it's facing the waves. Where he points, Kageyama sails—out onto the ocean, until the town is no longer visible, until it's only the water and sky, blue in all directions.'
--
Shouyou is curious to see what fearsome pirate captains do on their port days off.

Summary
' "We can go back to the ship," Kageyama murmurs, in a tone that almost certainly means they are not going to make it back to the ship.
The table they are at is in a corner, and the light from the lamps doesn't entirely reach it, but it's not like it won't be immediately obvious what they're doing. Shouyou doesn't care. Tell him he can't have this, try to take it from him. He'll drown anyone who dares.'
--
Shouyou stakes his claim on his bounty.

Summary
"You know who I am, boy?"
"I'm not a boy," Shouyou says, seething. "And you're a pirate. Obviously."
The captain steps closer. He's still unarmed; but every bone in Shouyou's body screams danger. He stands his ground.
"They call me the Dread Terror of the Seas," the man breathes. "Kingslayer. Captain of the Invincible."
The air freezes in Shouyou's lungs.
"Kageyama… Tobio…" he whispers.
--
When pirates attack Shouyou's hometown, he doesn't see a threat—he sees his only chance at freedom.
